Lower Eyelid Aesthetics (Lower Blepharoplasty)
Changes in the lower eyelids that occur with age or due to genetic predisposition can give a person a tired, old, and exhausted appearance. The three main problems we encounter in this area are:
* Excess fat protruding outward from the lower eyelid
* Excess skin on the lower eyelid
* Sagging of the midface region (midface descent)
These problems can occur individually or together. When personalized planning is combined with the appropriate technique, a very natural, fresh, and youthful appearance is achieved.
1. Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty
This is one of the methods we use most frequently. In this technique:
A small incision is made in the inner part of the lower eyelid, in the area called the conjunctiva.
The herniated fat pads in the eyelid are removed.
No incisions are made in the skin, leaving no scars.
In most patients, there is not only excess fat, but also some hollows under the eyes. In this case:
The extracted oils are processed using a special method to make them injectable.
Filling in the hollow under the eye creates a smoother, more youthful transition line.
If this is not sufficient, fat taken from another part of the patient's body can also be added.
2. Pinch Blepharoplasty
Some patients have excess skin in addition to excess fat. In this case, following transconjunctival blepharoplasty:
A 1-2 mm piece of skin is removed from just below the eyelashes.
The skin is not cut open; only the surface layer of skin is removed.
Aesthetics, closed with a fine stitch.
Thanks to this technique:
The risk of the eyelid being pulled down (ectropion) is eliminated.
The recovery process is much faster and more comfortable.
3. Combined Lower Blepharoplasty with Mid-Face Lift
If problems with the lower eyelid are accompanied by sagging of the midface, a more comprehensive approach is needed. In this case:
The surgery begins with an incision made at the base of the eyelashes.
The lower eyelid skin is lifted together with the muscle.
Excess fat is removed.
The middle facial tissues are lifted upward and secured to the bone.
Excess skin is carefully removed and closed with aesthetic sutures.
This method not only tightens the under-eye area but also the cheekbone area, resulting in a more youthful appearance across the entire face.
Recovery Process and Expectations
After Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty:
* No bruising is expected as no incisions are made in the skin.
* Swelling is minimal; in most patients, the surgery is not noticeable after 3 days.
* Ensures fast and comfortable recovery.
If a mid-face lift has been performed:
* Since more tissue is involved, the swelling is slightly more pronounced.
* However, it will regain its natural appearance within 7-10 days.
