Neck Lift Surgery: For a Clearer Jawline and Tighter Neck
If there is noticeable fullness in the neck area, especially under the chin, if the jawline has become blurred and the neck angle has disappeared, one of the most effective ways to correct this condition is neck lift surgery. These problems, which arise with age or structurally, can give a person a tired, overweight, or aged appearance. A neck lift helps eliminate this appearance and achieve a more youthful, dynamic look.
How is Neck Lift Surgery Performed?
In neck lift surgery, a small incision approximately 2 cm long is made under the chin. Through this incision, the neck skin is carefully lifted over the platysma, which is the neck muscle. If there is a noticeable accumulation of fat under the skin in this area, this fat mass can be removed surgically or by liposuction.
Next, the platysma muscle flaps on both sides of the neck are exposed and joined together along the midline under the chin and sutured to each other. This reduces excess volume under the chin and creates a more aesthetic appearance by accentuating the neck angle.
After surgery, sutures resembling an external spider web called Surgical Net are used to ensure that the removed skin is properly positioned on the base.
Recovery Process and Anesthesia
A neck lift can be easily performed under local anesthesia. It is a painless procedure that takes approximately 40 minutes. Patients are usually discharged on the same day. Three days later, the Surgical Net sutures are removed and the patient can comfortably return to their social life. Air travel is also possible three days after surgery.
Is Liposuction Alone Enough?
Aesthetic problems in the neck area are not usually caused solely by subcutaneous fat accumulation. Therefore, liposuction alone is often not a sufficient solution. This is because liposuction can only remove fat between the skin and the platysma muscle. However, in many people, the problem is the loosening of the platysma muscle or fat accumulation between the layers of this muscle. Liposuction cannot address these issues.
Furthermore, liposuction performed unconsciously and aggressively can cause deformities in the platysma muscle in later years, and these deformities become more noticeable from the outside. This can lead to aesthetic dissatisfaction.
Which Method Is Right for You?
In order to correctly identify the source of your neck problems and select the most appropriate treatment method, you must consult an experienced surgeon in this field. Each individual's neck structure is different, and the method to be applied must be planned specifically for each person.
When performed on the right patient using the correct surgical technique, a neck lift is an effective and permanent procedure that defines the jawline, reveals the neck angle, and provides significant rejuvenation of the lower face.
