Upper Eyelid

To remove the tired look from your gaze, for a youthful and dynamic appearance.

Upper Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Over time, or due to genetics, some people develop excess skin on their upper eyelids. While this condition often occurs with age, it can also be seen in younger individuals. Excess skin is usually accompanied by herniated fat pads. As a result:

* The area where eyeshadow is applied becomes hidden,

* The eyes start to look smaller, tired, and sad,

* The expression appears older than it is.

Assessment of Brow Position

One of the most important factors to consider when planning upper eyelid surgery is the position of the eyebrows.

If the primary problem is brow ptosis (drooping), correcting only the eyelid may not be sufficient. In this case, a brow lift surgery offers a more effective solution.

However:

* The patient may not want a brow lift,

* Or, the brow position is adequate, and intervention on the eyelid alone is sufficient.

In such cases, the patient's expectations can be met with upper eyelid surgery.

Surgical Process

* There is no specific age limit.

* It can be performed under local anesthesia in suitable patients.

* It takes an average of 35 minutes.

Surgical Technique:

* The incision is hidden within the natural crease of the upper eyelid.

* Excess skin and fat, if any, are removed.

* The incision is closed with fine aesthetic sutures and supported with tape.

Recovery Process

* Applying ice is recommended on the first day.

* Swelling and bruising are inevitable but temporary.

* These symptoms begin to subside from the 3rd day.

* By the 5th day, swelling has mostly subsided, and bruising has largely dissipated.

* On the 5th day, the stitches are removed, and the area is re-taped.

* On the 8th day, the tapes can be removed, and the person can comfortably apply makeup.

Planning for a Natural and Aesthetic Result

Hiding the scars from the surgery is very important. In some improper techniques, the incision:

* Is extended to the edge of the eyebrow,

* Appears as if it has been pulled upwards.

This is like trying to create a permanent eyeliner effect and results in an unnatural look.

However:

* As plastic surgeons, our goal is not to create permanent makeup but to provide a natural and healthy aesthetic appearance.

* The incision should stay within the natural crease of the eyelid and heal with the least possible scarring.

* Furthermore, incisions extended upwards:

* Cannot effectively remove the excess skin on the outer part of the eyelid.

* As a result, the patient may require another surgery.

Permanence and Scar Process

* On average, within 4 months, the surgical scar becomes invisible from a social distance.

* With proper planning and surgical technique, the obtained results will be long-lasting and satisfactory for years.
